By the People, For the People: Economic Freedom in 2026
What the founders built, and how we are following in their footsteps.
This is not a story about what is broken. It is a story about what is already being built.
You already know what economic freedom feels like. You feel it every time you hand someone cash for a cup of coffee. No one asked permission. No one scored your worthiness. No one stood between you and the person you were trading with. The exchange was yours. Simple, direct, free.
That feeling used to be the default. Two hundred and fifty years ago, the founders of the United States of America built a nation on the principle that free people, trading freely, building freely, will build something no one else can. And they were right. That principle became the most powerful economy in history.
Economic freedom was so fundamental to everything they were building that it never occurred to them to write it down. They named speech, assembly, religion, the press. Every right except the one that started the whole thing.
Because economic freedom was not an afterthought to the American Revolution. It was the cause. The Stamp Act. The Tea Act. “No taxation without representation.” Economic freedom is what they declared their independence for. It is the reason America exists.
And then, having won it, they left it out of the Declaration, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights. Why? Because they had solved the problem. Money was coins in your pocket. No one could freeze your coins. No one could score your worthiness to spend them. Economic freedom was the air they breathed, so omnipresent it was invisible. You do not write down the right to breathe.
We live in a world they could not have imagined. The money in your account passes through layers of infrastructure between you and the value you have earned. That simple, direct feeling of handing someone cash? It is harder and harder to find in a digital economy. The foundation beneath every right they named has shifted under our feet. And what the founders took for granted now requires something they never needed: technology that protects what used to be protected by the physical nature of money itself.
Economic freedom. The right to earn, save, spend, and move value as a free person. As fundamental as speech, as assembly, as conscience. The founders did not write it down because they did not have to. We do.
And here is the thing that everyone arguing about this is missing: we are all on the same side.
People who care about security want the same thing as people who care about privacy. Regulators who worry about money laundering want the same thing as citizens who worry about their accounts being frozen. Businesses that need compliance want the same thing as individuals who need autonomy. Everyone at this table wants a financial system that is safe, fair, and free. The argument has never been about the goals. It has been about whether you can have all of them at the same time.
For the first time in history, you can.
The framers of the Constitution gave us separation of powers because they understood that no single authority should hold all the keys. Frame is built on the same insight. Its tripartite governance separates the roles that today’s financial systems combine: the people who set the standards, the people who verify them, and the people who use the system. Each one accountable to the others. Checks and balances, written into the architecture.
Private wallets with built-in safeguards address the legitimate concerns of law enforcement without requiring mass surveillance. Enterprise subnets give businesses the compliance tools they need on their own terms. And the network is operated by Validators, real people distributed across continents, who have put their own names and resources behind their conviction that economic freedom is worth building.
This is an American ideal by birth, but it was never America’s alone to keep. Economic freedom belongs to anyone, anywhere, who has ever earned something and wanted to hold onto it. We are telling this story from where we stand, and the principle behind it has no borders. Neither does the infrastructure we are building to protect it.
This is not a political position. It is not left or right. It is the quiet conviction that people deserve to participate in the economy as free citizens, and that the technology to make this possible is finally here. It is what the founders declared their independence for and then forgot to write down. It is the unfinished business of the American experiment.
America was founded on the most audacious bet in the history of civilization: that ordinary people, given the infrastructure of freedom, will build something extraordinary. That bet paid off beyond anything the founders could have imagined.
When Benjamin Franklin walked out of the Constitutional Convention, a woman asked him what the delegates had created. He answered: “A republic, if you can keep it.”
Keeping it was always the people’s work, never anyone’s gift to us. For two hundred and fifty years that work meant protecting the freedoms the founders named. Today it means restoring the one they did not: the freedom to earn, hold, and move what is yours, as a free person.
This is what we are building at Frame. Whether it becomes the ground the next economy stands on rests on what it always has: not whether the thing can be built, but whether enough of us take our place and build it. Of the people, by the people, for the people.
There is a place at the table for everyone who is ready to become a Framer.
